The Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD) convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting on 6th February 2026 to strategize on accelerating socio-economic transformation across the Busoga sub-region.
The meeting brought together district leaders, production officers, Busoga Kingdom ministers, and technical officers to explore ways to lift communities out of poverty.
“The Consortium's mission is to accelerate Busoga's social, economic, and political development through community-driven approaches,” said Mr Anthony Mula, Director General of BCD.
“We are committed to working with all stakeholders to realize a socially and economically prosperous Busoga by 2030.”
The meeting was attended by Kamuli District Chief Administrative Officer Ben Marley Lawrence, District Chairperson Sarah Sambya, district production officers, and other key stakeholders.
Officials praised BCD for initiatives like the Village Agricultural Model (VAM), which promotes chili cultivation, soya production, and poultry farming, complementing local government programs.
BCD’s projects include a chili export initiative targeting 300 tonnes of dried chili worth UGX 1.2 billion for export to China in 2026, distribution of improved Rainbow chickens to 300 households, and plans to expand poultry support to 1,500 households.
The consortium is also implementing the BCD-CAU Soya Milk Feeding Program to improve nutrition and learning outcomes in primary schools, alongside a digital learning initiative that has equipped 50 schools with TV screens, cameras, and internet connectivity for real-time online learning.
Stakeholders emphasized promoting gender equality, expanding coffee, soya, maize, and cassava production for food security and industry, and raising awareness of BCD programs at the community level.
“We will play a central role in mobilizing communities and disseminating information about BCD programs,” said District Production Officers Sam Nkenga and Nantale Nasabu, pledging the Busoga Kingdom’s full support for the initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to unite all stakeholders in driving the transformation agenda, with BCD aiming to deliver a prosperous Busoga by 2030.
